Gerrad was born the son of a lord high up in the court of a king. From a young age, he showed extreme prowess in the field of alchemy, solving problems that the King's own personal alchemists couldn't solve. At the age of 15 he was sent to the Royal Academy of Alchemy, which existed upon an alchemical airship. He showed extreme advancement and promise in his classes, however, he was expelled from the academy  for "reckless behavior" (the academy had a strict three strike policy against the obliteration of lavoritories by means of alchemy). From the point of his expulsion, he began to travel the kingdom has a traveling elixir merchant. While traveling, he picked up several useful skills in defending himself, including his creation of bombs and use of mutegens. He is now 17, one year after his expulsion.
