  • So we're now playing alternate Saturdays with the esteemed Mr. Athey's Outlands game. Play is from 2-6 EST, unless we call it earlier.    If you know me and you're interested in the campaign, please drop me a PM or talk to me in the chat.   As a final...

    About this game

Some basic things to go through:

    - The date and time on this are tentative, as I do need to accommodate players' schedules.

    - Due to the delicate nature of the game and the general lack of experience with the system, seats are currently invitation-only. I will allow spectators, but if they are disruptive or the table starts to break down, then they will have to leave.

    Now:

Blood Operetta is a Houses of the Blooded game I am running for whenever the players are free. It is a game of intrigue, subterfuge, and social combat more than anything. In fact, the best way to describe it is as the complete and polar opposite of D&D: There's more of an emphasis on romance and style over mechanical substance, players have a staggering amount of control over the way the world works and how the story goes, and if you go around fighting your way through all your problems, chances are that you will wind up in a bad situation very quickly.

In Houses, the players play nobles in an ancient society where honor and influence are just as important as power, and where your weapons are a well-placed insult, poison, and blackmail. Gestures will be grandiose, emotions will run high, and people WILL get backstabbed. We're going to start with the "training-wheels" adventure listed in the quick-start guide and the main book, just to get people acquainted with the system-- oh, by the way, go ahead and read this. When you guys are finished with it, it's going to be a hell of a different animal from what's printed down there, so I don't really give a toss. Just don't be a dick and metagame.

When we've sort of got things under control, I may open up another slot if I feel like dealing with it.

We will be playing on Skype, so that I can record the sessions for note-taking, and so that private messages can easily be passed. This is a game with surreptitious plots, so I would be remiss in not giving people a way to contact me and other players privately.

In any case, this should be fun, and I'd hope it goes well. See everyone at the table!

    Premise

From the opening of Roses and Thorns:

Of course, Shara’s party is anything but typical. A whole series of events happen, throwing her young life into absolute turmoil.

Shara wouldn’t have it any other way.

The party takes place in Shara’s puzzle house: an old relic her father fought for long ago. Accepting the invitation to Shara’s party means each ven attending must bring a gift...

Young, beautiful and dangerous. Shara Yvarai’s coming out party is an opportunity for Romance, trade, Contracts… and murder. Your Count (or Countess) wants a Contract with Shara. Convince the young baroness to sign a Contract of servitude

Players will play Ven nobles in service to a count or countess (we decide at the table) hoping to get Shara Yvarai to sign a Contract swearing fealty to their liege. As well as jockeying for favor and influence with the other guests at the party.

    Style of play

Lots of intrigue and social stuff. Not so much combat. Bring on the poison and blackmail and witty bon mots, leave the broadsword at home.

Also: All random tables WILL be used by the players. This is non-negotiable. We think it is fun (and also hilarious), so this is happening. You have been warned.
