The Female Factor, Pt. 4

Thursday, 24-Jan-86

Great. Now there's two people at the breakfast table cleaning guns, because Roy is teaching Sara Jaye his quaint habit. Sorena's carne asada waffles go over big, despite initial concerns.

Seems like it's going to be a normal day, but Mesta gets a call over lunch to meet Winter in a park on Beacon Hill this evening. The forces marshal, Romer does a little security scouting of the meeting area, and all is well. The question is, how long can Roy keep the kind of craziness the boys are really up to away from Sara Jaye? Especially since it looks like she'll be here for a while.

The park is merely a way-station, somewhere for Winter to meet Mesta and his friends before heading off to the real place of importance. She leads the boys down through industrial parks and the not-so-great neighborhoods around them. Finally, in the back office of a small building, Winter introduces the boys to one of her powerful friends.

Dressed in the kind of suit that would cost mostly peoples' monthly income, Mr. Hanson is an interesting fellow. Tall, thin, pale, with long black hair, he has a hawkish look about him. He's cautious, but ultimately friendly. Perhaps what is most interesting is that is along – no apparent security, no apparent guards. That means he is either extremely stupid or extremely dangerous.

The conversation that follows reveals that he and his friends have been helping Winter and others like her disappear – into the arcane underground, a place where the unusual can hide from everyone, even the law. Winter says that she has found other Whites and they have formed a family with <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.infrno.net/plugin_assets/community_engine/javascripts/tiny_mce/themes/advanced/langs/en.js?1261949637"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.infrno.net/plugin_assets/community_engine/javascripts/tiny_mce/plugins/curblyadvimage/langs/en.js?1261949637"></script> in the arcane underground, where they can be safe from both Chrysalis and the New Earth Government.

Moreover, she wants Mesta to join them. Never one to join in too quickly, unless you count that one time with the Horned One bunny girl, Mesta requests to meet more of her friends and the other Whites before he leans one way or the other. Neither Winter nor Mr. Hanson have any objections.

Somewhere in here, Mr. Hanson reveals that he knows the Children of Chaos have taken over the Chrysalis Corporation. That is not public knowledge.

So now it's time to wait for the next connection in the arcane underground – and to do a little research on Mr. Hanson, if anything can be found.

Meanwhile, Sara Jaye starts figuring out how she can be licensed to carry firearms and how to best work the items of her new wardrobe. After all, it's been a lot of years since she dressed like a civilian.

Sorena's spinning at the his Seattle residency – the Last Supper Club – tomorrow night…
