The Female Factor, Pt. 7

Saturday, 26-Jan-86

The fight in the Last Supper Club did not go well at all, though it did give Mesta a chance to spread his para-psychic wings.

While Sorena ripped apart a Dua-Sanaras Dhohanoid that had the lack of common sense to try to entangle him with his flailing tentacles, Mesta put his gravikinesis to work. He blew a Ramachese's head off, while floating over the crowd, trying to get a clear bead on Romer.

Meanwhile, Roy is stuck inside a strong, rubbery, black cocoon in which he can barely move and can't breathe. He manages to blow a hole in the cocoon, enough so he can get his gun arm out – so he starts shooting at the horrific amorphous thing that's sprouted insect-like legs to drag him away. That just pisses it off and it starts to squeeze. A few cracks and pops later, and Romer's gun arm is out of socket, four ribs are broken, and something's punctured – besides the lung that has the spike in it.

Back in the club, Sorena uses his wings as a prow to plow innocent bystanders out of the way. An Elib Dhohanoid steps into the back doorway, chucking an innocent freak out girl up at Mesta. This distraction sort of works. Mesta pauses to let the girl down gently, while Sorena proceeds to tackle it like a football player. This gives Mesta a clear way out after Romer.

Of course, it won't be that easy. Romer's been carted up into a waiting modular cargo truck, a A-pod job that floats. It takes off down the alley, around a corner. Floating up over the roof, Mesta gets in a good shot – and crushes the front end of the truck. It continues forward, locked in with speed and direction. He manages to slow the thing down just in time to notice the snipers that Chrysalis has put in place on the rooftops around the building. Sorena soars up just in time to block some automatic weapons fire. And sirens are coming.

Sorena and Mesta then drop to the ground, run around the back of the club, and fetch Winter among the panicked crowd. They try to run through back alleys to get to the truck, but there are too many snipers. By the time they go all the way around to get to the truck, whatever was inside escape – taking Romer with it.

Tense hours pass, with calls to Michael Alder, the Operator. Finally, Sorena gets a call from the manager of the Last Supper Club, who passes along a message that appears to come through for Mesta.

"Tomorrow night, 11 pm, Miranda Park. Bring the White girl."

Miranda Park is south, outside the arcology, in a bad part of town. Lots of crime and gang-bangers.

Mesta asks Winter to see if she can get some help from her friends. Meanwhile, it's time for a good night's rest for the planning tomorrow.

In another part of the city, Roy is tightly strapped to a metal chair that's been bolted to the floor. The inhuman thing has pooped him out and reformed into Winter #2. Roy tries some of his usual witty banter, which just results in Winter #2 shoving her finger tendrils up his nose to poke his brain. A voice booms out from the shadows – leave him alone, he's not who we want. Romer is left alone, with spike that won't let him shift in his kidney and calf, in a pool of light in an empty warehouse. At least he'll heal in the mean time.
