Battle Dancer (Archetype)
BATTLE DANCER (Archetype)
On the blasted world of Athas, the battle dancer is an elf warpriest who follows the call of one of the revered elements. A battle dancer is basically a specialized ritual dancer, one who uses his or her talents not to tell stories but to defend the tribe. In elf tribes, very few elves are afforded the title of element singer. Others who show elemental spell-casting abilities, or who seem attuned to an element other than the one revered by the tribe, are urged to become battle dancers, combining the skills of the warrior arts with priestly endeavors. Full of grace and speed and agility, battle dancers perform across the field of battle much as the slaves of Salt View perform across the stage. The call of combat courses through their strong limbs while the call of their revered elemental sings in their hearts. These religious warriors are looked upon with awe by their tribesmates, and they often become the champions of their tribes.
Class Skills: Perform replaces Swim as a class skill.
Battle Dance (Su): Starting a battle dance is a move action, but it can be maintained each round as a free action. A battle dancer cannot perform more than one elemental effect at a time during a battle dance, except where noted below. Changing from one elemental effect to another requires the battle dancer to stop the previous performance and start the new one as a move action. At 7th level, a battle dancer can start a battle dance as a swift action instead of a move action.
Ritual Weapon (Su): At 1st level, while wielding a scimitar or elven longblade in one hand during her battle dance, a battle dancer can use her Dexterity modifier instead of her Strength modifier on melee attack and damage rolls.
Elemental Weapon (Su): At 4th level, the battle dancer gains the ability to enhance her scimitar or elven lightblade with elemental power during her battle dance. This ability grants the weapon a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls. For every 4 levels beyond 4th, this bonus increases by 1 (to a maximum of +5 at 20th level). The battle dancer can use this ability a number of rounds per day equal to his battle dancer level, but these rounds don't need to be consecutive. These bonuses stack with any existing bonuses the weapon might have, to a maximum of +5. The battle dancer can enhance a weapon to have special abilities as a warpriest of equal level. Duplicate special abilities don't stack. The weapon must have at least a +1 enhancement bonus before any special abilities can be added.
Elemental Armor (Su): At 7th level, the battle dancer gains the ability to enhance her armor (but not shields) with elemental power during her battle dance. This ability grants the armor a +1 bonus. For every 3 levels beyond 7th, this bonus increases by 1 (to a maximum of +5 at 19th level). The battle dancer can use this ability for a number of minutes per day equal to her battle dancer level. This duration does not need to be consecutive, but it must be spent in 1-minute increments. These bonuses stack with any existing bonuses the armor might have, to a maximum of +5. The battle dancer can enhance her armor to have special abilities as a warpriest of equal level. Duplicate special abilities do not stack. The armor must have at least a +1 enhancement bonus before any special abilities can be added. The enhancement bonus and armor special abilities are determined the first time the ability is used each day and cannot be changed until the next day. These benefits apply only while the warpriest is wearing the armor, and end immediately if the armor is removed or leaves the warpriest's possession. This ability can be ended as a free action at the start of the warpriest's turn.
When the battle dancer uses elemental armor, she can also, as a free action, perform her elemental weapon ability as she sees fit during the battle dance by expending one use of fervor.
This ability replaces Sacred Weapon and Sacred Armor.
Blessings (Su): A battle dancer must select at least one of either the air, earth, fire or water blessings. She gains access to her major blessing for any of these at 8th level, rather than 10th level. The battle dancer may select any other blessing as her second blessing, but she can only select an alignment blessing (Chaos, Evil, Good, or Law) if her alignment matches that blessing. If she chooses both of her blessing from air, earth, fire or water, she gains both major blessings at 8th level. This ability replaces Blessings.
